Broken Rock Dive Site

A diver’s dream dive site. A must-go to dive site for both beginners and expert divers

The Broken Rock Dive Site

Located at the southern ari atoll the Broken Rock Dive site is a very popular dive site in the Maldives. The Thila according to locals is literally a big rock that was broken in two by a two meter wide canyon that split the small Thila in half, thus the name Broken Rock. The Broken Rock dive site’s geography made it suitable for soft coral growth that is why the Thila is covered with corals. The thing about the Broken Rock dive site is that only one diver can enter the canyon at a time due to the two meter wide narrow opening along the channel.

Dive Tips

There are two big black coral rocks upon entry with beautiful overhangs and fan corals, so make sure not to miss those. At the reef of the Broken Rock there is amazing hard coral growth and a great diversity of marine life. It is an ideal place to find colorful creatures like the nudibranchs and colorful fish contrasted by the blue water. The Thila of the Broken Rock is only suitable for experienced or advanced level divers since there is always a strong current that is present along the Thila. Dive torches and surface balloons are a must.
