Grey reef sharks in the Maldives are found living around the coral reefs and are most active at night when they are hunting. If you’re interested in scuba diving with sharks in Maldives, you’re most likely to encounter grey reef sharks under water. There are several types of reef sharks Maldives, the most common of which is probably the grey reef sharks. A reef sharks diet consists generally of smaller fish and they are savvy hunters, although there is no evidence confirming the question, are grey sharks dangerous to scuba divers. Grey reef sharks can reach lengths of about 6 feet long and usually have a grey back with a white belly.

No matter how many times you visit the Maldive, scuba diving you will always find a new scuba diving experience waiting for you. There are many Maldives diving highlights, one of diving in maldives which is Hanifaru Bay diving, where you will have the chance to experience one of the most amazing natural phenomena in the underwater world. If you go Hanifaru diving, at the right time of year, you will see incredible numbers of manta rays that gather in this bay to feed on the massive amounts of plankton. You are almost likely to see several diving maldive whales sharks here, which also thrive on this planton. Diving Hanifaru Bay is just one of the many places where you can enjoy shark diving in Maldives. Maldives shark diving is possible throughout the archipelago, where you will see many different species of sharks, although whale sharks are perhaps the biggest attraction to scuba diving holidays divers in the diving Maledives, because of their enormous size and docile nature. If you’re keen on shark diving Maldives, you’ll be interested to know that you can also expect to see a variety of reef sharks and zebra sharks while in the Maldives.

The biggest Manta Rays can measure up to 25 feet across and may weigh up to 3,000 pounds. A fun fact about Manta Rays is that they have the most brain : body ratio amongst all rays and sharks. Manta Rays are bottom feeders they catch food with their plates with spongy tissue filters along the gill bars. Manta Rays are a majestic and delightful sea creature to see when scuba diving; because of their long and huge cape like appearance. Manta Rays are a frequent sight at most coral reefs because they need certain kinds of fish to clean out their gills for parasites; like tha wrasse, remora and angelfish. Some of them are even small enough to enter the gills of the Manta Ray for a more thorough cleaning. In the Maldives it is very important to take note on the Manta Ray season of the different dive sites since the numbers of Manta Rays that can be seen may vary greatly depending on the season and current. Manta Rays usually display curiosity with scuba divers.

The western seafront of Male’ is its recreational center. Here there is what can be found as a sweet little beach that has been made from breakwater and tetrapods. There is a whole new range of fast food cafes surrounding it making it an ideal spot for tourists to relax and hang out. Beyond the cafes and restaurants are open fields large enough to accommodate soccer and cricket games. Further up towards the ferry there are fairground attractions at the Majeediyya Carnival along with a bowling alley. These is also when you look the other way a tetrapod monument which is a mini concrete statue that forms in part the life saving breakwater for the city.

It is a medical therapy in which oxygen is administered to a patient in high pressure

It was once used to treat decompression sickness but now it has multiply practical applications.

Hyperbaric chambers are now being used by athletes who need to increase their performance because hyperbaric chambers significantly increase the production of red blood cells of the body. Which in turn greatly increases the oxygenation process of the body resulting in increased stamina and strength.

As for scuba diving, decompression sickness is usually caused by a scuba diver that has ascended to quickly from a significant depth not allowing the body to adjust to the sudden change in pressure. Also divers should not go on a flight 24 hours after their last dive.

Scuba divers should be aware of where the closest hyperbaric chamber is when they are diving. In the Maldives, there are three hyperbaric chambers:

Bandos Medical Clinic and Hyperbaric Centre, Bandos Island Resort, North Male Atoll

For advanced scuba divers who want to experience more of the Maldives.

The Maalos Thila Dive Site

Starts with a depth of more than 25 meters the Maalos Thila dive site is famous for its huge collection of corals. Three large coral heads immediately welcome the diver upon entering the Thila, All three of the coral heads are covered with colorful soft corals.

It is a good idea for divers to look around while venturing further into the Maalos Thila because there is just a great variety of marine life swimming everywhere from Giant sweet lips and White tip reef sharks around the coral heads.

A good place to spot numerous Blue stripped snappers would be around the caves and overhangs they blue colored fish blend in contrast with the blue and yellow soft coral which is an delightful sight. Along the top of the reef divers will be able to sea a large diverse array of hard coral growth.

As usual the Maalos Thila dive site is for advanced divers and a surface balloon is always a must. Especially when the current is running out the atoll.

A diver’s dream dive site. A must-go to dive site for both beginners and expert divers

The Broken Rock Dive Site

Located at the southern ari atoll the Broken Rock Dive site is a very popular dive site in the Maldives. The Thila according to locals is literally a big rock that was broken in two by a two meter wide canyon that split the small Thila in half, thus the name Broken Rock. The Broken Rock dive site’s geography made it suitable for soft coral growth that is why the Thila is covered with corals. The thing about the Broken Rock dive site is that only one diver can enter the canyon at a time due to the two meter wide narrow opening along the channel.

Dive Tips

There are two big black coral rocks upon entry with beautiful overhangs and fan corals, so make sure not to miss those. At the reef of the Broken Rock there is amazing hard coral growth and a great diversity of marine life. It is an ideal place to find colorful creatures like the nudibranchs and colorful fish contrasted by the blue water. The Thila of the Broken Rock is only suitable for experienced or advanced level divers since there is always a strong current that is present along the Thila. Dive torches and surface balloons are a must.
